Carolyn Borton – CEO, Lead Architect

carolynCarolyn Borton brings over 10 years of educational software development and architecture and a passion for educational software to every project she leads.  Carolyn is the founder and owner of Sunshine Learning Systems as well as its head software architect and systems developer. She is a top ActionScript programmer with experience in IT support, computer instruction, computer programming and Internet-based educational software. Prior to founding Sunshine Learning Systems, Carolyn was a key courseware architect for PLATO Learning, a leading provider of education technology solutions for K-adult learners. At PLATO, Carolyn led a cross-disciplined team of programmers, writers and artists in creating educational courseware in Flash.

Carolyn is a highly skilled Flash/Flex/FlashBuilder developer who specializes in creating robust, scalable, component-based solutions, optimizing ActionScript code, and transferring data to and from the Flash Player. She learned to build e-learning systems from some of the most experienced people in the business. She prides herself on her ability to build light-weight (quick download), user-friendly interfaces in Flash and robust and rich user experiences in Flex/FlashBuilder. Her user interface designs are so effective; they often don’t require documentation to use them – a true sign of a great interface.

Carolyn also has the unique ability to translate “tech-speak” into “regular-speak”. Software architects must be able to translate non-technical requirements into a language programmers can understand, but it is rare to find someone like Carolyn who can reverse that – to make it possible for untrained users to answer technical questions without requiring them to learn the technology.
